This 40-hour program will utilize modules based on NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. This course will consist of classroom instruction and Job Performance Requirement (JPR) activities. This class will use the Jones and Bartlett textbook Fire Officer: Principles and Practice including Navigate Advantage Access, fourth edition. The book must be purchased prior to the start of the class.
FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES INSTRUCTOR LEVEL 1

This course is required by the NJ Division of Fire Safety for Firefighters who wish to be certified as Level 1 fire service instructors. This course will provide the student with an understanding of instructional planning, techniques and delivery as related to the fire service. This program is eligible for Pro Board and IFSAC certification.
BASIC METER AND MONITORING

This is a great class for the new emergency responder and or seasoned emergency responder who needs a refresher on atmospheric air monitoring while using a single or multi gas detector. Knowing how to use your atmospheric meter is crucial. This class will review the basic concepts of what a meter is, how to turn it on, calibrate, bump test and zero out for use. In addition, the student will learn how to operate the meter when on various calls for service.
INVESTIGATING RESIDENTIAL ALARM SYSTEMS

This course is intended to educate firefighters and company officers in the installation and operation of typical smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in residential properties. Construction code requirements and operations will be reviewed. Students will be instructed on techniques to locate and identify defective alarms in a multi-alarm system. Students will also be instructed on methods which can be used to assure that adequate protection is restored to a property prior to the departure of the fire department.

This program is designed to ensure that instructors know and understand the safety issues inherent in all areas of Fire Fighting training. Instructors must be capable of demonstrating the proper methods of identifying and correcting an unsafe act/task as it occurs. Safety must be stressed during training, so the Fire Fighter develops good habits.
FIREFIGHTER II PROGRAM

PUMP HYDRAULICS

When it is 3 am and you are the 1st engine company due to a working fire, that is not the time to guess what certain numbers mean on the pump panel. This new course is meant for the up-and-coming pump operator and/or the seasoned pump operator looking for a refresher on pump hydraulics. This course will review all different variations of equipment, situations, and fire department dynamics when it comes to pump hydraulics.
LARGE AREA SEARCH/ROPE ASSISTED SEARCH

A large area search is a search where a team is entering a fire building to do a primary or secondary search under arduous conditions because of a known life hazard. This type of search is used in a building that does not require a wide-open-area search or a patterned search. Instead, this type of search uses the rope to secure and control an exit point from the fire area. Building types include office buildings, apartment houses with long hallways or stores with aisles that have stock and merchandise in place. This class will teach and demonstrate different ways on how to effectively accomplish a large area search task.
ICE/COLD WATER RESCUE AWARENESS

The Ice Rescue Awareness course is approximately 3 hours, and the curriculum is based on NFPA 1006. It represents the minimum level of awareness capability required for the First Responder when responding to an ice or cold-water rescue or recovery incident. This training will be beneficial to anyone responsible for Incident Command at the scene of an ice incident, as well as for all shore-based fire and EMS personnel. The program will cover subjects that include the safety concept, ice types and formation, site assessment and hazard recognition, Personal Protective Equipment, and industry-mandated safety measures. This course is the pre-requisite for our operations and technician level training.
INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM I-200.c

The 12-hour Incident Command System I-200.c course consists of the following topics in accordance with the NIMS (NJDFS requirement for Level 1 IMS Certification): Leadership and management; delegation of authority; management by objectives; functional areas and positions; briefings; organizational flexibility and transfer of command.
CEVO IV FIRE: COACHING THE EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATOR

NFA INCIDENT SAFETY OFFICER

This course is intended to provide either the “dedicated" safety officer or any member who might be assigned the role of “Incident" safety officer with skills to function effectively as the Safety Officer at fire department incident operations and training. The primary focus shall be on developing decision making skills through the recognition of cues that affect personal safety. This is a National Fire Academy accredited course.
INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM I-300

The I-300 course continues the IMS Training and consists of ICS Fundamental review, Unified Command, Incident/Event Assessment, Incident Objectives, Planning Process, Incident Resource Management, Demobilization, Transfer of Command and Closeout.

AUTO EXTRICATION I

This comprehensive 19 hour course will consist of both lecture and hands-on training. Participants will receive instruction and develop improved competency on all phases of auto extrication including: scene size-up, vehicle stabilization, removal of the vehicle from the entrapped patient, patient removal, etc.
HARASSMENT, DIVERSITY AND SOCIAL MEDIA: ISSUES FOR THE EMERGENCY SERVICES

New Jersey employers are required to provide training and education on the topic of recognizing and preventing workplace harassment and discrimination to both supervision and members of the workforce. Additionally, employers are also required to have a comprehensive workplace policy on this topic. Failure to do so leaves the organization vulnerable to liability exposure. Coupled with more than two decades of experience including investigative services and policy development, the program developer brings to the classroom both historical and recent court decisions from both New Jersey and Federal courts to educate members on what is and what is not harassment or discrimination. Additionally, participants will be educated on how to avoid unwanted consequences for postings on social media.
AUTO EXTRICATION II

This course, mostly hands on, continues where Auto Extrication I left off. Using numerous skill stations and multi crash scenarios, students will be able to demonstrate the key principles and practices of safe and effective vehicle extrication practices.

COMMON HAZMAT INCIDENTS: WHAT TO KNOW

This course will touch briefly on the basic technology of detection that fire departments use to respond to a call of service.
HEAVY VEHICLE RESCUE – LEVEL 1

The Heavy Vehicle Rescue program is a specialized program focusing on accidents involving large trucks and autos. The program eliminates time consumption of rescuers learning on the job. Precious minutes of the Golden Hour are saved thus reducing the mortality of those involved in accidents. Rescuers may apply these techniques immediately upon returning to their agency.
